Primate Win: Indonesian Villagers Accidentally Burn Orangutan They Were Trying To Smoke Out Of Fruit Tree

primatewin:

Villagers trying to smoke an orangutan out of a fruit tree where he was sheltering accidentally set him on fire.

The distressed animal had been hiding in the leaves above the village of Lower Wajok in West Kalimantan, Indonesia, because its habitat had been disturbed, wildlife experts said.

Why are we outraged that this happened when these things happen to Orangutan’s daily? By that I mean habitat loss etc.

Christmas Island (The Christmas Crab Migration)

Located far northwest of Australia in the Indian Ocean is the small island named Christmas. With a population of only around 1,400 people, 63% of the island is under national protection as an Australian wildlife park. But although there may not be many humans, Christmas island is home to over 40 million Red Land Crabs which are famous for their long annual migration across the island to the ocean, crossing roads, villages and train tracks to lay their eggs.
